Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The In-Patient Coder is responsible for coding and abstracting hospital discharge records for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis (es), operation (s), and procedure (s) using ICD-9-CM classification and procedure(s), using CPT-4 classification systems; coordinates the release of bills.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Three year coding experience in an acute care setting for inpatient and outpatient

  • High school or general education degree (GED) or equivalent technical training.

  • CCS Certified through Ahima

Training:

  • Coding certificate program or coding classes which includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology or equivalent.

Special Skills:

  • Ability to assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes to medical records.
