The Medical Record Out-Patient Coder is a member of the Health Information Management Team responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding, validating the information in the databases for outcome management and specialty registries, across the entire integrated healthcare system. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information records for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. This position is expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies within the Dignity Health organization, JCAHO, DHS and other regulatory agencies.
Certified Coding Specialist credential from AHIMA required for hires after 07/01/2012
Minimum of 3 years experience in acute care setting for outpatient coding with strong training background in coding and reimbursement
Basic understanding of computer applications
Ability to work with Medical Staff and other departmental personnel
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Experience and knowledge of Meditech Health Information Systems, 3M Encoder, and Smart programs.
Must have knowledge of ICD-9-CM coding, CPT-4 coding, HCPCS classification systems.
Visual acuity necessary for close work where accuracy is important.
In-Patient coding expertise
AHIMA RHIT or RHIA credential
