In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, the Perioperative Materials Coordinator is expected to perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of the organization. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner, will be responsible for maintenance of the Perioperative Supply Inventory in a cost effective manner, makes sure supplies are reordered as they reach appropriate levels and then insures they get restocked to their proper location and is responsible for ensuring compliance of vendor policy in the Perioperative Departments.



Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.

  • Experience in a hospital Materials Management Department or Surgery Department is required.


  • Prefer at least two years of college and Microsoft Access is preferred for database management.

Special Skills:

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the day to day operations of the Surgery Department is required.

  • Must be familiar with product terminology, and possess a knowledge of the surgery supply market.

  • Candidate should have an understanding of the financial impact of revenues, expenses, and inventory investments.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the surgical environment, including basic asepsis, traffic patterns, OR attire, instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Maintain the Perioperative Departments Supply Inventory.

  • Establish and review min/max levels for routine non-stock supplies. Assists in establishing appropriate supply par levels and reviews against utilization on a periodic basis.

  • Performs weekly inspection of inventory for integrity and potential outdates. Reorder Cycle - Review stock levels daily to determine products to reorder. Enter cyclic departmental orders into Material Management system. Check off supplies as delivered to Surgery by Receiving. Restocks shelves rotating stock regularly.

  • Product Information Management - Maintains current catalogues and product. literature for all major surgical product suppliers. Maintains current directory of suppliers including telephone numbers, etc. Coordinates activities of all vendor sales representatives in the Perioperative Departments.

  • Insures that the Hospitals and Corporate procedures are followed by all sales representatives. Assists Perioperative Director and doctors in specifying the most appropriate, contracted product to meet their needs. Ensures that Patient charge codes are assigned to all patient chargeable supplies and that they are current.

  • Responsible for updating ORMIS item file changes specifically related to supplies and/or equipment as well as global preference card changes for contract conversions and/or product changes. Maintains equipment and instrument repair database to facilitate determination of replacement needs for budgeting purposes.

  • Works in conjunction with Educator and other Coordinators on product trials and evaluations. Schedules all outside vendors required for Specialty Implant surgical cases in the Perioperative Departments, and then processes the paperwork for Purchasing to cut the Purchase Order.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned to include but not limited to, sending Surgical equipment out for repair in conjunction with Purchasing protocols. Able to frequently operate sterilization equipment including required safety testing.
