Overview

Responsibilities

To qualify for this position, experience which demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities is required: Knowledge of: basic office practices and procedures; general business machines operation (familiarity with computers preferred); medical terminology (laboratory terminology preferred); correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ability to: work as a team to meet the team goals and objectives; work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as circumstances requires; maintain a high degree of accuracy; treat co-workers, patients, visitors, and the public with dignity and respect; establish and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital staff; maintain patient confidentiality; problem-solve effectively; work a flexible schedule and be willing to work additional hours if needed for the provision of quality patient care.

The incumbent performs support functions for the Clinical Laboratory through the distribution and verbal communication of results, the maintenance and organization of Lab records, the typing/word processing of policies/procedures and memos, registering out patient for laboratory testing, the transportation of specimens, and miscellaneous charging/crediting activities.

The incumbent shall demonstrate behaviors consistent with the core (Mercy) values in support with Mercy San Juan Medical Center and the Mission and Philosophy of Dignity Health.

Qualifications

1 year Office experience required. 1 year in Clinical Laboratory preferred. Demonstrates basic office practices and procedures. General business machines operation. Computer knowledge at the intermediate level including Word and Excel and preferred knowledge of Access. High level of organizational skills. Understanding of efficient and organized method of filing information both electronically and manually. Ability to take minutes and transcribe them. Have some understanding of AR and AP. Work as a team to meet goals and objectives. Work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as circumstances require. Maintain a high degree of accuracy. Strong vocabulary and grammar skills. Treat co-workers, patients, visitors and the public with dignity and respect. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital staff. Maintain patient confidentiality. Effectively problem-solving. Work a flexible schedule and be willing to work additional hours if needed for the provision of quality patient care.
