Responsibilities

The Philanthropy Officer post is a junior position reporting to the Sr. Director of Philanthropy at the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation, (SMMCF), serving a not-for-profit hospital in Long Beach, CA. SMMCF is part of Dignity Health, a large health care system with hospitals in three western states. The duties of the position include building and maintaining relationships with existing donors and prospects in support of Annual, Corporate, Major and Planned Gifts. The position also coordinates the department Stewardship Program including recognition, benefits and communications. The post also has an active role in a new Culture of Gratitude Program designed to help identify grateful patients/families through relationships with physicians and other clinicians. The Philanthropy Officer will serve as the lead staff for the Annual Charity Golf Tournament (June) and support a calendar of donor cultivation events (dinners, luncheons, receptions).

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in fundraising or relationship sales

  • Experience with annual fund, major gift fundraising and capital campaigns

  • Enjoys people and interaction with donors over age 55, strong advocate for the role of fundraising in the making the world a better place, solid verbal and written communication skills, fast paced, high energy, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, proficient computer skills in word, excel and database software.
