Under the administrative direction department director, plans, manages, delivers and evaluates continuing education and training interventions for CHMC clients within the Women and Children Services as well as for health professionals in the corporate and outside community. Under the guidance of the Education Specialist for Maternal & Newborn, the Lactation Specialist is responsible for providing professional guidance to CHMC clients in the promotion and support of breastfeeding. The Lactation Specialist will participate in regular staff meetings throughout the year as well as periodic training sessions for Breastfeeding Peer Educators, CHMC staff or related health care professionals.
Minimum of three years experience in Maternal and Newborn Health Services field including significant experience in working with mothers and newborn infants.
High School Diploma or its equivalent with some college preferred.
Certification as a Lactation Educator recommended, Lamaze Breastfeeding Support Specialist required.
Department of Health Services Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program International Childbirth Education Association Teacher Training Certication recommended.
BLS and NRP required.
Knowledge of Maternal and Newborn Health Services Strong speaking/presentation skills.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
