Practice is consistent with licensure as defined in the California Nurse Practice Act, and Mercy Medical Center (MMC) policies and procedures. The RN in this working in this capacity renders direct and indirect nursing care to assigned patient populations. Provides nursing assessment and interventions in both elective and emergency therapeutic and diagnostic procedures which includes but is not limited to pre- and post- procedure care for a wide range of endoscopic procedures (ing: anoscopy; proctoscopy; sigmoidoscopy; colonoscopy; gastroscopy; esophagoscopy; esophagogastroduodenoscopy; gastrostomy tube insertion and removal and replacement; esophageal mobility; esophageal dilatation; liver biopsy; abdominal paracentesis; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and sclerotherapy. Provides nursing assessment and interventions for a wide range of therapeutic infusion, injection and procedural therapies (ing: IV Conscious Sedation, blood transfusions, IV antibiotic, Iron, procrit, tysabri, bone marrow bx, etc.) The primary patient population ranges from young adult to geriatric.
Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California.
Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate
Must possess and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate or obtain one by within six months of hire.
Must possess and maintain a current Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate or obtain one within three months of hire.
Must complete the MMC IV conscious sedation competency
Must be able to take call shifts as assigned
Previous clinical experience in Endoscopy/Infusion preferred.
Prior experience in PACU/CCU preferred
Conscious Sedation experience preferred.
Certification from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses Association (SGNA) RN, BLS, ACLS, PALS
