Overview

Mercy Medical Center (MMC), a Dignity Health member, is a 186 bed acute care, religious sponsored, not-for-profit hospital located in the city of Merced, California. MMC opened on May 2, 2010 and employs over 1,300 people, making it one of the largest employees in Merced County. MMC has a professional relationship with more than 250 local physicians. Major programs and services include: one licensed acute care facility with a family birthing center, intensive care unit, emergency care and four floors housing, telemetry and medical/surgical nursing units. There are three outpatient facilities, Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center, Mercy Outpatient Center and the Mercy Medical Pavilion. Services at these outpatient centers include home care, physical and cardiac rehabilitation, ambulatory surgery, cancer care, laboratory, imaging and endoscopy. MMC primary service area includes the cities of Merced, Atwater, Winton and the County of Merced.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the incumbent is a frontline member of the Emergency Department Quality Resource Team responsible for supporting hospital-wide leadership and medical staff on the full range of operational quality and performance improvement activities throughout the facility. The incumbent performs a hands-on role in providing expertise in clinical knowledge and skills, process improvement techniques, clinical outcomes management, data management and coaching and development of hospital and medical staff regarding quality improvement activities to improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. The incumbent also supports the concurrent review and medical staff peer review processes.

The incumbent is able to independently support various hospital leaders in improving clinical process outcomes in their specific areas of responsibility. The incumbent also utilizes educational training techniques to increase the knowledge base of hospital and medical staff to improve outcomes throughout the facility. The incumbent leads and/or supports various committees throughout the facility to assist the nurses and physicians in the improvement of outcomes and data management by providing them with education on outcome requirements and feedback on incomplete clinical measures.

The incumbent possesses a strong knowledge base of Title 22, CMS and CDPH regulations and is able to demonstrate the ability to advise on these regulations in order to improve management of outcomes. Incumbent is also has experience and knowledge base to work with other external agencies, such as QualityNet, NSQIP, CalNOC, and others to utilize comparative databases and resources to further the ability to analyze the improvement of clinical outcomes. The incumbent would also participate in other duties, including but not limited to, participation in Medical Staff and Nursing Department meetings and providing nurse counseling and recommendation for corrective action where quality standards and processes are not being met.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse license with the State of California.

  • Must possess and maintain a current ACLS, PALS (ENPC), BLS

  • Five years clinical experience in an acute care setting.

  • Two years of experience in quality and performance improvement processes.

  • Strong computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with others in difficult situations utilizing conflict resolution skills.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or other related field or currently working toward the degree or demonstrates sufficient current experience in Quality field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, Federal and State licensing requirements

  • Proficiency with CERNER and MIDAS database
