The NICU RCP is responsible to perform all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care procedures ordered by the responsible physician; evaluates patients; maintains all required patient and department records; maintains and evaluates proper functioning of equipment when required; responsible for obtaining written physician orders pertaining to respiratory care; responsible for organizing and planning daily work assignments and notifying shift charge therapist of problems and missed procedures; maintains professional knowledge of current respiratory care practice and department policy and procedures; responsible to practice job duties in accordance with department /Medical Center policy and procedure and the Respiratory Care Standards of Practice. The NICU RCP functions as primary NICU therapist.


  • This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

  • Must have minimum of 1 year critical care experience in respiratory critical care experience in respiratory therapy or minimum 2 years experience in a level 2 or greater with competency in neonatal and newborn delivery intubation.

  • Successful completion of a minimum two-day didactic course in neonatal respiratory therapy required.

  • Current State of California Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.

  • Current certification in specialty area as required. Current BLS, PALS, NRP required.

  • Must maintain current Fire Safety card.
