In keeping with the Dignity Health's health care philosophy, and in support of the fund raising objectives of the St. John's Healthcare Foundation, the Grant and Communication Specialist is responsible for the coordination of an ongoing grants program, which includes conducting prospect research and writing and preparing grant proposals to private foundations, corporations and various government (local, state and federal) agencies.
The specialist will maintain a robust portfolio of foundation funders by researching prospective funders that align with Foundation programmatic priorities, manage relationships and build effective proposals for existing funders in collaboration with VPP and department staff, and tracks and reports outcomes as necessary. Coordinates and engages in stewardship activities as necessary.
The Specialist develops and executes the Foundation's program of communications in support of all Foundation giving programs and services, including, but not limited to the annual Foundation report to community, electronic newsletters, program brochures, annual giving program, solicitation letters, event related communications, media releases, and cultivation event communication materials.
A minimum of 3 years experience in fundraising to include grants and annual fund management
Candidate must demonstrate exceptional donor-centered relationship skills/abilities and a deep understanding of nonprofit business
Candidate must possess grant program management experience, advanced writing ability and a demonstrated track record in grantsmanship, including a pattern of creativity and innovation that would enable her/him to contribute and lead the Foundations effort to increase grants and funding from various sources for hospital programs and priorities
Able to work independently with excellent follow-up
Must be motivated and a self-starter
Good communications and people skills with a demonstrated ability to work with boards, donors, employees and community at large
Able to handle multiple projects concurrently that involves organizing and prioritizing work assignments
Candidate must have a strong attention to detail; outstanding writing ability; excellent interpersonal skills, including success collaborating closely with peers and leadership volunteers; flexibility and self-starting initiative; as well as philanthropic values and a commitment to service
A Baccalaureate Degree in English, Communications, Political Science, or in a related field Master's Degree preferred
Specific experience in communications and grant writing for health care philanthropic organization; publication development, electronic messaging, annual giving program and event related communication support preferred
Certified Fundraising Executive Credential preferred
