Responsibilities

The Clinical Pharmacy Cardiology Specialist provides clinical direction and leadership for the pharmacy. The pharmacist in this position actively participates in formulary management, pharmacotherapy services and drug therapy management.

Located in Phoenix, AZ this position is critical to the success of St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health.

The Clinical Pharmacy Cardiology Specialist:

  • Acts as pharmaceutical consultant to provide drug information to physicians and nurses

  • Precepts pharmacy practice residents and pharmacy students

  • Acts as the pharmacy representative in allclinical, quality, and regulatory activities pertaining to the optimal use of cardio-selective agents

  • Participates as the pharmacy representative on the Cardiac Quality Team

  • Contributes to P&T Committee activities at both local and system levels

  • Performs order verification and completes kinetics consults for associated hospital areas

  • Performs quality assurance for cardiology related order sets and pharmacy services and develops and/or optimizes patient care protocols based upon evidence

  • Completes medication use evaluations as appropriate

  • Acts as the cardiology expert within the pharmacy department for the evaluation of non-formulary requests and drug information questions as they arise

Qualifications

The Clinical Pharmacy Cardiology Specialist:

Requirements:

  • Specialized residency training or 3 years hospital pharmacy experience with greater than 50% of time spent providing direct patient care

  • Graduate Degree in Pharmacy

  • Arizona Pharmacist license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • PGY2 Residency and/or Fellowship in Cardiology or Critical Care

  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and/or Board Certified Cardiology Pharmacist (BCCP)

  • Experience participating inExtracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation and Mechanical Circulatory Assist Device Programs

  • Experience in precepting both pharmacy residents within an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program and APPE students from ACPE accredited Colleges of Pharmacy
