Position Title: Director of Clinical Informatics

Position Summary:

Improves the quality and effectiveness of a region's overall health care program by providing leadership, coordinating and facilitating the evaluation and improvement of a wide range of programs. Collaborates with hospital level leadership at the regional level to develop effective plans.

  • Creates the regional clinical strategy for use of technology and optimizes the use of existing clinical systems across a designated region of 3- 6 facilities. Provides strategic leadership for the professional advancement and development of all informatics staff. Serves as a expert consult to facility and regional senior leadership on the use of technology to meet the strategic and operational needs of the organization

  • Provides leadership and oversight for a comprehensive informatics program, with a primary focus on clinical practice, administration, and research in support of interdisciplinary, patient focused care. Leads clinical informatics plans, data analysis programs, creation of informatics policies and procedures and serves as a champion for complex clinical projects and systems.

  • Participates and oversees system design, test, implementation, documentation, validation, interfacing, analysis, processes re-engineering, configuration, education, training, conversion, to ensure optimum success with ROI. Coordinates the collection and reporting of metrics defining benefits realization, and return on investment associated with Clinical Information Systems. Directs the analysis of ROI metrics post implementation.

  • Promotes an environment that supports the conduct and utilization of research in practice and a spirit of inquiry. Promotes innovative approaches to solving legacy problems, including notel technical and workflow approaches. Remains current of IT industry changes and federally mandated programs especially in in EHR related field.


  • Knowledge of and insight into all the pieces and parts that produce results and ability to utilize various methods and techniques to frame problems and situations from the perspective of their impact on the entire system; to make appropriate action plans and take the right risks.

  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize business processes and technologies for gathering, storing, analyzing, and providing access to data that helps the organization make better business decisions.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to gather, communicate and store useful information within and across organizations in order to enhance employee knowledge and improve organizational performance.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local healthcare related laws and regulations; ability to comply with these in healthcare practices and activities.

  • Knowledge of philosophies, approaches, processes and practices for delivering healthcare services; ability to implement, design, assess and improve healthcare service models and ensure they align with organizational goals.

  • Knowledge of industry and company applications and databases that contain medical, patient, and healthcare information; ability to use, protect and improve these applications and databases.

  • Knowledge of Internet-based tools and services available to the medical and healthcare communities; ability to use this knowledge in related healthcare practices.


Education and Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years healthcare experience and minimum 5 years of leadership experience.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and/or additional job related experience in lieu of the degree.

  • Licensure: State Registered Nurse (R.N.) license
