The instrument technician assists the nursing staff, on a daily basis, by processing--- from decontamination to sterilization--- surgical instruments; the technician also makes certain that all necessary instruments are available when needed by the clinical staff for surgical cases.

Must have at least one year of recent experience as an operating room technician, surgical attendant, anesthesia technician, or central processing technician.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have American Heart Association BLS certification.

Certification as a Central Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist preferred.


Familiarity with data entry and the maintenance of automated documentation. A good working knowledge of Word or equivalent software. Minimum of 3-5 years combined experience in healthcare industry 1-2 years of experience with a minimum of 1 year in area of related field Complete annual safety training. Complete and maintain department specific training. Must have leadership ability and good communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to quickly learn necessary medical terms normally associated with the Unit. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide spectrum of the public with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to effectively process a great number of forms, reports and records in accordance with generic guidelines. Ability to read and speak English clearly and be understood. Certification as a Central Processing Technician OR Surgical Technologist required.
