The hospital’s heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average, and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.

Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.

Beyond care inside the hospital, Dominican is dedicated to the health and wellness of the Santa Cruz community.

Community programs include a Mobile Wellness Clinic, a tattoo removal program, and support groups for patients and new mothers. In addition, and in accordance with our mission, Dominican Hospital supports programs for the underserved in our community, including children and adults, students, seniors, and the homeless population. This position is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision, under the general direction of a radiologist and radiology administration. In accordance with the mission and philosophy of Dignity Health, the Sonographer is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for performing diagnostic testing used in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients.


Required Experience:

  • Must have successfully passed the ARDMS Registry for Abdomen or Ob/Gyn; OR

  • Completion of an ARRT program and successfully obtained a Sonography licensure. RVT experience Completion of annual safety training. Completes and maintains required unit specific training.

  • RVT experience (preferred)

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Succesful completion from an accredited sonography school

  • Associate's Degree in Science (preferred)

  • ARRT (preferred)

  • CRT (preferred)

  • CRT Fluoroscopy (preferred)

Training Required:

  • Completion of annual safety training. Completes and maintains required unit specific training

Licensure Required:

  • Current Basic Life Support for healthcare providers (CT CPRBLS)

  • Completion of an ARRT program with current Sonography licensure (ARRT)

  • OR current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasonographers (ARDMS) in ONE of the following areas: Abdomen OR Ob/Gyn (RG ARDMS)

  • Must achieve certification in both Abdomen and Ob/Gyn within one year of hire
