Responsibilities

The Lead Coder is a member of the Health Information Management Team responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding, validating the information in the databases for outcome management and specialty registries, across the Central Coast Healthcare system. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information records for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. This position is expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies within the Dignity organization, JCAHO, CDPH and other regulatory agencies. Leads workflow of IP and OP Coding staff. Ensures MHB and Dignity Health deliverables are met.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience Coding In-patient, Out-patient surgery and Emergency Room records.

  • Five years coding experience without credentials.

  • Three years experience with Certified Coding Specialist credentials and must pass qualifying exam at 98% accuracy rate.

  • Completion of formal HIM educational program recognized by AHIMA

Preferred Requirements:

  • Three years experience with Registered Health Information Technician/Certified Coding Specialist credentials

  • Associates degree in Health Information Technology, Desired

  • CCS, Certified Coding Specialist (CT CS), CPC
