Marian's new hospital includes 191 beds, expanded and enhanced Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit, NICU and women's services.

Responsibilities

About This Position

In keeping with Marian Medical Center health care philosophy, under the limited direction of the Coding Supervisor, the Coder abstracts and codes all in-patient, out-patient, surgery, ER, and out-patient referred accounts as directed by National Coding, Dignity Health, and MMC coding guidelines.

Coders are expected to respect and adhere to confidentiality mandates, as well as to promote a professional attitude in daily work activities. Demonstrates thorough understanding of compliance issues in relationship to their position. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing .

Minimum Requirements:

  • One year acute care hospital coding required ; medical records and computer experience required; thorough understanding of the coding function, including DRGs and APCs.

  • College classes required. Successful completion of human anatomy and human physiology, introductory and intermediate coding classes, and medical terminology required.
